SIP (Session Internet Protocol) is a breakthrough technology that allows the SMB (Small to Medium Size Business) to enter the realm of Enterprise companies and start taking advantage of the savings and convenience that VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol). As a Sales Engineer, it is my job to insure the products we recommend to or customers actually do what we say they will do, and I am here to tell you that SIP is not just the corporate Kool-Aid that we are all drinking. It is here to stay. Simply because it works, and saves a bundle of cash! SIP phone lines come into your office VIA your high speed internet connection and terminates into your company’s phone switch. The cost for these types of lines is usually less than half (Usually avg. $20) what you are paying for your existing lines.
You can’t tell the difference in quality as long as you have the proper evaluations done before you deploy this technology. Depending on your size of network, you may hear talks of new routers and switches, which you may need, but depending on your phone system you are probably ready to go without any additional costs in hardware. I personally just added 9 new SIP lines to our office for $65/month. We were paying around $620 for our old service so that saved us over $500 per month. Each case is different and I would advise that if you are new to this technology, allow a qualified professional to walk you through it the first time to make sure you get it right. You will be glad you did for the quality, reliability, and ultimately the huge cost savings to your bottom line.
